Everyone desires love. Imagine a deeply connected, honest, open, sexy, sensual, empowering relationship with someone who’s always in your corner—someone who brings joy, inspiration, and support. I can imagine it, yet, I know so many brilliant, beautiful women who wonder why they are still single, even though they have so much love to give.

Feng Shui teaches us that to attract and maintain a great relationship, we must tap into the power of feminine energy. This means stopping the constant doing and giving. Many women, especially those who are high achievers, often find themselves over-giving in hopes of attracting love, but this approach works against the very essence of feminine energy.

I know, I know—it contradicts all the dating advice we’ve heard: "Get on dating apps, try speed dating, wear high heels to Home Depot, or scope out events like beer festivals in your mini skirt." I’ve tried it all, from starving myself to fit a certain image, to trying to be the person I thought someone wanted, rather than just being me.

You might be wondering, How does Feng Shui play into this? In the Feng Shui bagua, the upper right corner represents the Relationship area, symbolized by the trigram KUN, which is made up of three broken lines—three Yin lines. These broken lines represent receiving. Feminine energy, therefore, is about receiving, not doing. Think of the Earth, which receives nourishment from the sun and rain. This is the essence of femininity: being open to receive the love, energy, and nourishment that your heart, body, and soul need.

On the other hand, the Helpful People area of the bagua (the lower right corner) is represented by three solid Yang lines, symbolizing masculine energy—dynamic, outward-moving energy that gives to the feminine. The masculine gives; the feminine receives. This is the natural flow of energy in relationships. When the masculine gives in this way, you create the space for the feminine to receive you fully, deepening your connection. Treat your partner like a queen: give your honesty, your curiosity, your time, attention, love, and intention.

So, for those of us who identify with the feminine, Feng Shui encourages us to stop the constant doing and start going inward. Get to know yourself again. What do you enjoy? What brings you joy? When do you feel most alive? What do you want in your life and your relationships? When you take the time to connect with yourself in this way, you radiate a powerful energy of self-awareness, self-love, and joy.
